About AskNRIGuru
AskNRIGuru turns Indian tax, banking and property rules into tools and plain-English guides for Indians who live abroad.
NRIs often run into the same problems: a buyer cutting a large amount of TDS on a property sale, confusion over whether a long visit to India changed their tax status, or a bank asking for forms they have never heard of. Official notifications answer these questions, but they are written for lawyers and accountants. We read them, check them, and turn them into something you can use in a few minutes.
The editor
Ashwani Kumar Srivastava edits AskNRIGuru and its sister news site, NRI News Now. He spent about a decade as a journalist, much of it covering business and the economy. He worked at Hindustan in Ghaziabad and Delhi, Navbharat Times in Delhi, and Business Standard Hindi as an assistant news editor. He later reported from Lucknow as a special correspondent for Business Standard and Lokmat.
He studied at the University of Allahabad and trained in journalism at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. He is not a chartered accountant or lawyer, and the site does not give personal tax or legal advice. His job is to make sure every figure on the site matches its official source and is explained clearly.
How we work
- Every rate, limit and form number comes from a primary source: the Income-tax Act, 2025 and the Income-tax Rules, 2026, CBDT notifications, RBI directions, and the treaty texts. These are listed on Rules and sources.
- Each tool and guide shows the date it was last checked.
- When the law changes, we update the rulebook and the affected pages, and change the date.
- We correct mistakes quickly and openly. See the editorial policy.
